I can contribute! (Calls)

Contribute to the UHU Experiment by Your Own Recordings!

We welcome individual photos, photo sequences, and/or video recordings taken during the AX4 mission (the latest dates are in the webpage of the AX4 mission) with the aim of capturing Transient Luminous Events (TLEs).

The challenge: how many TLEs can the community of observers capture from the ground while the AX4 crew aims to photograph them from the International Space Station?

Please make sure to familiarize yourself with what these phenomena are and how you can capture them (“How to observe TLEs?“).

To help us utilise your records in scientific research, please collect the following information and share it with us together with your observation files.

  • Camera model, lens type, key settings (e.g. ISO, exposure time)
  • A photo, screenshot, or short video on a display that shows the GPS time with an accuracy of at least 1 second.
  • GPS coordinates of the observation site (including its altitude)
  • At least rough camera pointing direction
  • Your own observation notes

Please share your recordings together with the metadata in a downloadable package (e.g., a ZIP file) via Google Drive, Dropbox, or similar services and contact us via the ‘Contact‘ section.

Submission deadline: July 31, 2025

Send Us Your Best TLE Photos of the Season!

Photographing Transient Luminous Events (TLEs) is a real challenge — and a truly rewarding one! Share your best TLE captures from this season with us to spread the joy of observing these phenomena and to inspire others to give it a try.

Each photographer (email address) may submit up to three photos per TLE type (e.g., red sprites, blue jets, gigantic jets, etc.). A single event or a group of elements is considered one type.

Please submit only your own original work.

Each submission should include:

  • Your name (or alias)
  • Your country
  • Your email address (used only for contacting you)
  • Optional: A brief description or story behind the photo(s) — e.g., observation site, area of thunderstorm storm activity, your experience, thoughts, or feelings during the event.

Photos will be reviewed by an invited jury. Selected images will be presented online and/or in a physical exhibition, after prior negotiation with the photographers.

Please send your images along with the required information as a downloadable package (e.g., ZIP file) via Google Drive, Dropbox, or other file-sharing service, and contact us through the ‘Contact‘ section.

Submission deadline: September 14, 2025
