Hints on possible ISS-UHU joint observations are on Facebook

The AX-4 mission is happening on the ISS and we produce a list of observation targets for the astronauts daily. Whether any of the forecasted targets will be executed depends on the schedule of the crew and we get to know that only later.

Thunderstorm targets that can likely be monitored by ground-based observers, too, are indicated regularly in the Facebook group of observers.

Please note that there is an always-working instrument on board the ISS: the ASIM unit (Atmosphere-Space Interactions Monitor) on the Columbus module. It has cameras and various detectors receiving signals from an area of 500 km radius below the ISS.

So on the one hand, making TLE observations regardless of the ISS position is encouraged because one of the quests of the UHU project is to find out how many TLEs are observed from the ground during the ISS mission.

On the other hand, if the ISS is over a thunderstorm that one can observe from the ground, too, simultaneous TLE observation with the ASIM unit would still be a great achievement.

One can check when the ISS is above a specific location using https://heavens-above.com/

So please observe TLEs if you can and share the records with us! Please read the corresponding call!
