The Lightning Alerts application can also be used to find active thunderstorms. In the app, one can show only positive ground strikes, hide weak ones with a strength (kA) filter, and tap a strike to see its peak current, time, and distance and direction from you.

One can also put a saved place over a distant storm area to get alerts for lightning there. The data comes from Vaisala Xweather. At the time of posting this, the map covers Europe, North America and Australia, on land and nearby seas.
